How classical Persian poetry finds a new home in the cultural dialogue of Valencia.
Persian Poetry in Valencia
Persian poetry — from Rudaki to Forough — has always been bound to the sea, the light, and the garden: the same elements that shape the literary tradition of Valencia.
Two traditions, one horizon
Reading a ghazal of Hāfez alongside a verse of Ausiàs March, we see two poets speaking of love, loss, and time — yet with different music.
- Hāfez: ambiguity, the rind, wine and the beloved
- Ausiàs March: introspection, ethics, wounded love
Our circles in Valencia
At Herencia Persa we meet weekly to read a ghazal or a passage from the Shāhnāmeh; then we translate it into Spanish and discuss it together.
"The children of Adam are limbs of one body." — Sa'di
This line, inscribed at the entrance of the United Nations, sums up what we try to do: to build a poetic bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
